John Sutton beat Brendan O’Donoghue 3-2 in the final of the first Ivy Rooms Summer Open in Carlow on Saturday. For the time of year the event still attracted a quality field with three ex Irish Champions in attendance including O’Donoghue, TJ Dowling and three time champion and current professional David Morris.

However it was Sutton who was the man to beat as he made it through the groups and then beat Morris 3-2 to progress. He then saw off local favorite Colvin O’Brien to set up a semi final clash with Andrew Yeates who had seen off Wexford’s Stephen O’Reilly in his quarter final match.

Yeates however could not stop Sutton who then met O’Donoghue in the final after he saw off TJ Dowling in the other semi final. The Ivy Rooms have confirmed that they will be running another of these one day events on the 23rd of July and before that they are running a 6-Red Junior Open next Saturday.
